Toyama Hamono Japanese Pruning Shears Box

Japanese Steel Pruning Scissors

$130.00

Hand-Forged All-Purpose Pruning Shears

Designed for clean, precise pruning indoors, these hand-forged shears are especially well suited to green stems, small branches and more delicate cutting work. The rounded high-carbon steel blade gives you excellent control in tighter spaces, while the forged construction creates a dense, durable edge that stays sharper for longer.

What sets them apart is the feel in hand. Designed by Toyama Hamono, the asymmetrical ergonomic grip sits comfortably in the palm and makes it easier to apply force without the tool feeling awkward or bulky. It’s a thoughtful detail that gives the shears a more balanced, confident feel in use.

The black grip is finished using a traditional baking process rather than conventional paint, giving the shears their understated dark finish and a more natural expression of the material.

Sharp, durable and beautifully balanced, these are the kind of shears you buy once and keep for a very long time.

FAQ

What can they cut?

Green stems, small branches and general plant material. They cut up to about 5mm at the tip and about 10mm at the base of the blade. Use them on green, living growth only, not dry or dead wood.

Are they good for indoor plants?

That’s what they’re best at. The rounded blade gives you control in tight spaces, so you can make clean, precise cuts in a crowded pot without nicking the growth around them.

Are they stainless steel?

No. The blade is hand-forged high-carbon steel, which holds a sharper edge for longer than stainless. The trade-off is that carbon steel needs a little care to keep rust away.

How do I look after them?

After use, wipe away moisture, sap and dirt, paying attention to the blades and the pivot. Store them indoors in a sheath or toolbox, and give the blade a light coat of oil from time to time.

Who makes them?

Toyama Hamono, a five-generation maker in Sanjō, Japan. Each pair is hand-forged.

How big are they?

190mm long overall with a 60mm blade, and they weigh 170g.
